Donations?
« on: March 01, 2007, 11:58:18 AM »
As the topic states should GATT open the doors for donations to aid in development of local gaming with respects to tournaments and administrative duties needed to manage what we do year to year?

Let us hear what your opinions for and against all are required to form an idea of what is needed.

its probably a good idea outside of sponsorship, i'd support it as I know the time and effort that goes into running tournaments and the financial strain it can be without sponsorship.  I've put  almost a thousand dollars out of my own pocket for tournaments that I have held over the last couple of years.   Right now I was supposed to do another 3s tourney but can't cause funds are tight right now. A point to note for other persons, tourneys are not cheap to do, and the return is next to nothing (other than a gg) Entrance fees don't usually cover prizes either.

What I think would be helpful would be the give a discription of what the 'donated funds' are used for, I for one prior to rb's comment had no idea what the funds would go towards? would it have been for the server, for tournaments, to add download sections? please elaborate on the intentions.

running tournaments and administrative duties, note that donations would not go into the pockets of anyone, (IF) we go the donation way.
But the money would be to help for
1. Tournament prizes
2. Site maintenence (hosting/bandwidth etc etc)
3. bare Tournament  (cost for using PCs/TV/Console)
thats just some immediate thinking and some of the major real things that donations would go toward. T

This idea came up in the instance where we will be looking at options for GATT doing its own events, self funded owned and operated.

P.S. please vote

you know, i fully support the donation scene on taku but never even thought about it for GATT.

i remember i used to be a strong advocate of paid membership for GATT. i've relaxed my view point on it as being mandatory but donations could be a great idea.

One benefit i could definitely see is with increased resources, we could do alot of the things to the site that we have been wanting to do and also add new things that i didn't think about, like the mention of a downloads section, hmm. Also we could add alot of content back to the site.
Content that we used to have back in the silverado days, games galore and lots and lots of interaction with members... gosh, if only we could get gattopia back *sigh*

I would also love for us to, on  a regular basis, be able to produce gatt merchandise, such as our jerseys and the highly sought after, non existent gatt dog tags lol.

All in all, donations cant be bad as long as there is transparency....once the members see where the donations are going i'm cool.
